It is time we get serious here. Over the last year, we have seen a man rise from reality star to inches from the White House door. During this time, we have seen some of the worst journalism in the history of this great country. Day after day, every news network has been fawning over Donald Trump. Why has this happened? Well let’s be honest, its all about the Benjamins! Journalists have given up on reporting the news and moved on to hyping the crazy that is the GOP nominee. I started writing because I had respect for those political journalists and commentators in the media that could explain an issue and give us the real information without hoping to get a great rating. This is about our country and not the profits of your investors and we must begin to take responsibility for the monster that we have all created.
Journalists have been fawning over Donald Trump since the day he called Mexicans rapists. They saw the cash cow and now they realize they created a huge pile of cow shit. While their investors lined their pockets, the American people have been torn apart. Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked people of every race, religion, gender as well as the disabled. You would find it difficult to find any community that has not been directly impacted by this hateful rhetoric. In the course of a year, we have seen a shocking uptick in violence against minorities. We have also seen a rise in active hate groups popping up in communities all across this nation. You are responsible for this and you need to take ownership of the mistakes that are being made. I want to remind you of some of the statements that Donald Trump has made on your very networks.
“An ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud”
“I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”
“Our great African-American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.”
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”
“My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.”
“I’ve always wanted to get the real Purple Heart.’ This was much easier,”
“His wife, if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say,” he said. “You tell me, but plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet and it looked like she had nothing to say.”
This is just a sampling of the many crude and outlandish things that the man has said. Let’s not even start on his Twitter account and paid goons like Corey Lewandowski, Katrina Pierson, Sam Clovis and Russian double-agent Paul Manafort! The whole group sees dollar signs and could care less what Donald Trump says, but they will repeat it and then expound upon it. They will claim that their views are not the same as what they present on your networks, but you rarely pushed back until it was almost too late, that is still up in the air. Let me break it down for you. You have seen massive profits by giving Donald Trump unlimited free air time. With nearly $250,000 for a 30-second spot, you have given Donald Trump over $2 billion in free advertising and air time while devoting less time on actual policy issues. This election is about who can lead this country, not who can play the biggest clown on TV. When this is all said and done, your investors will still have full pockets while the rest of America will face years of repair trying to salvage what is left of our divided country. We will be the ones worrying about the white supremacist down the street who proudly walks around with a Confederate flag, an assault rifle and hate in their hearts. We already went through this as a country and we fought hard to push hate out of the mainstream. You eagerly accepted it and promoted it. You happily gave a voice to the scariest parts of our country all in the name of profits. You are supposed to be a journalist and that comes with a responsibility.
You are supposed to believe in journalism. You are supposed to believe that the public journal is the responsibility of all journalists and that to present less than the truth is a disservice to the American people and a betrayal of our trust. You are supposed to believe clear thinking, clear statements, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism. You are supposed to believe in what you say and what is true to your heart. You are supposed to believe that factual news should never be suppressed, for any consideration of the welfare of society. You are supposed to report the news without thinking of anyone’s pocketbook. You are supposed to believe that what you write serves the best interests of all society, not just those with the biggest bank accounts. You are supposed to believe that truth should always prevail. These are part of the creed of a journalist. When will you begin living up to that creed?
As the creed states, the supreme test of a good journalist is the measure of his or her public service. It should be unmoved by pride of one’s opinion or greed of one’s power. As a blogger, I take the same creed and my credentials seriously and I wish you would do the same. We have a chance to salvage the reputation of our great media if we just admit that greed took over and the people were given a disservice. We can not let Donald Trump win anymore. We can not let Donald Trump bully his way into the greatest and most powerful office in the land. His mental health is questionable, his policies are laughable and his comments are contemptible. Do the right thing before it is too late!
